The Saratov oil refinery suspended operations after sustaining damage in a Ukrainian drone strike. Reuters reported this, citing two sources.
The attack on the facility became known on the morning of July 8, when pro-Ukrainian Telegram channels reported it. Saratov region governor Roman Busargin did not explicitly say that the refinery itself had been hit, but he did report damage to one infrastructure site in the region.
Information also emerged at the time that one person was killed and several local residents were injured in the drone attack. Busargin did not specify the exact number of those wounded in his post.
The damaged refinery belongs to Rosneft. Reuters notes that the plant had already suspended operations earlier this year amid Ukrainian attacks, including in March and May.
The agency also recalls that drone strikes had previously forced temporary shutdowns at refineries in Moscow and Omsk.
Against the backdrop of continuing Ukrainian attacks on oil storage and processing facilities, the Russian authorities banned diesel exports and began purchasing fuel from Belarus, India, Kazakhstan, and Japan.
