On July 25, the Leninsky District Court in Perm ordered activist Leonid Melekhin, who had been extradited from the United States, to be held in custody pending trial. This information was reported by Properm.ru.
The news outlet stated that in August 2024, Melekhin attempted to cross from Mexico into the U.S., where he was detained by immigration authorities. After applying for and being denied political asylum, he was deported back to Russia. Upon arrival, he was arrested on charges related to "terrorism justification."
Properm's report notes that Russian authorities had been seeking Melekhin due to his alleged involvement with Navalny's political offices.
