Nikolai Statkevich, a 69-year-old former presidential candidate of Belarus, who was released on September 11 following a meeting between Alexander Lukashenko and a representative of Donald Trump, is currently being held in a penal colony in Glubokoye. On September 11, Lukashenko released 52 political prisoners, including the politician Statkevich. All of them were deported to Lithuania. However, Statkevich refused to leave Belarus and spent several hours in the neutral zone on the border with Lithuania. Ultimately, he returned to the Belarusian side, after which masked individuals took him to an unknown location.
In 2021, the court sentenced Nikolai Statkevich to 14 years of imprisonment.
