Teenager in St. Petersburg charged with terrorism after gas station arson under pressure from phone scammers

In St. Petersburg, a 16-year-old teenager has been detained on suspicion of setting fire to a gas filling station. The Investigative Committee reported this.

According to the agency, a criminal case has been opened against the teenager under Article 205, Part 1 of the Russian Criminal Code, which concerns terrorism.

Investigators say that on July 17, the minor came to the filling station in the Kalininsky district, poured a flammable liquid on the premises, and then set it on fire.

The fire, officials said, caused no injuries.

The Investigative Committee said the teenager had acted under the influence of phone scammers. The outlet Fontanka reported that shortly before the arson, he had been threatened by people who identified themselves as “employees of the Ukrainian Armed Forces”.

No further details about the case were provided in the statement.
