Ozzy Osbourne, the legendary rock icon often called the "Godfather of heavy metal" and founding member of Black Sabbath, has passed away at 76. Sky News reported the news, citing a statement from the musician's family.
"It's with immeasurable grief that we announce our beloved Ozzy Osbourne died this morning. He was at home with his family, enveloped in their love," the statement read.
Osbourne had battled Parkinson's disease for nearly five years, relying on a wheelchair and crutches in his final years.
Born John Michael Osbourne, the British rock pioneer helped shape heavy metal when he co-founded Black Sabbath in 1968 alongside Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler, serving as the band's iconic frontman. His vocals defined classics like *Paranoid*, *War Pigs*, and *Iron Man*.
After departing Black Sabbath in 1977, Osbourne launched a successful solo career, producing hits such as *Crazy Train*, *Mama I'm Coming Home*, and *No More Tears*. His contributions earned him inductions into both the U.S. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the British Music Hall of Fame, along with stars on Birmingham's Walk of Stars and Hollywood's Walk of Fame.
On July 5, 2025, Osbourne delivered a final performance titled *Back to the Beginning* in his hometown of Birmingham. Seated on a throne—accompanied by his signature bats—he played solo tracks and Black Sabbath classics with the band's original lineup. The farewell concert featured appearances by Metallica, Guns N' Roses, Pantera, and Slayer, with proceeds benefiting Acorns Hospice, Birmingham Children's Hospital, and Cure Parkinson's.
